Weekend in Jervis Bay
March’s mild weather called for a weekend visit down to Jervis Bay on the NSW south coast.
This was the first time either of us had been to Jervis Bay after hearing so much about it, and while very pretty, as had been promised, was much less developed than I had expected.
We stayed in the Green Patch camping area in Booderee National Park which was surprisingly busy given the weather in Sydney hadn’t been that fab. Lots of big groups and I’ve got to day, you are rather close to your neighbours!
However the camping grounds are in a very pretty spot, on a point with lots of bush land and obviously the beach. You also get very close to the wildlife who are not the least bit concerned by humans.
We had mixed luck with the weather; rainy and grey the first day, but then lovely and sunny the next. Still, we got out and explored, starting with a visit to the town of Huskisson. This seemed to be the main tourist area with cafes and shops and the Huskisson Hotel. We went for a wonder, did the coffee thing, lunch at the hotel, etc. Pretty relaxed!
We also went for a bit of a drive, exploring some of the other local towns, making friends with the Pelicans at St Georges Basin :-) , before making our way to the famous Hyams Beach.
The beach really does have very white sand that makes a fun squeaky noise under your feet.
Back at the campsite we had a drink while enjoying our beautiful surrounds
The following day we received some sun (finally), getting out to make the most of it starting with a quick walk on the White Sands Walk and surrounds.
Afterwards heading to the beach to soak up some rays and enjoy that lovely white sand.
